About Doula Support

  • What services does The Collective offer?

We offer a wide range of services, including birth doula support, postpartum doula care, fertility support, placenta art services, belly casting, mentorship programs, and more. Our doulas are dedicated to providing personalized care for families throughout their journey into parenthood.

  • How do I choose the right doula for my family?

We understand that every family’s needs are different. Our Collective provides a variety of doulas with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and specialties. We encourage you to browse our team and schedule consultations with any doula who feels like a good match.

  • Where geographically do you support?

The Collective has doulas serving families throughout southwestern Ontario, including London, St Thomas, Stratford, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Sarnia, Chatham, Six Nations, Walpole Island, Collingwood, Barrie, Orillia, Toronto, Durham, Oshawa, Niagara Falls and more!

  • Can you support me if I’m planning a home birth or a hospital birth?

Yes! Our doulas are experienced in both home and hospital birth settings. We support families in all birth environments and will work with you to ensure you feel empowered, informed, and comfortable with your birth plan.

  • What is postpartum doula care, and how can it help me?

Postpartum doulas provide emotional, physical, and practical support after your baby is born. This can include help with newborn care, meal preparation, light housework, and support with Lactation or bottle-feeding. Our goal is to help you navigate the early days of parenthood smoothly and confidently.

  • Do you offer specialized services for loss or grief support?

Yes, we have doulas trained in grief and loss support, including pregnancy and infant loss. We provide compassionate care tailored to each family's unique needs, helping guide you through this sensitive time.

  • Will hiring a doula replace my partner's role during birth?

No, hiring a doula will not replace your partner’s role. A doula works alongside your partner to support both of you during the birth process. The doula provides expert guidance, emotional support, and practical help, while your partner offers the intimate, personal connection that only they can. Together, they form a team to ensure you feel empowered, comfortable, and well-supported throughout your birth experience. In fact, many partners find that having a doula allows them to be more present and engaged without the pressure of managing everything on their own.

  • What should I expect during a consultation with a doula?

A consultation is a chance for you to get to know the doula and ask any questions you have about their services, experience, and approach. It’s also an opportunity to see if you feel comfortable with the doula and if their personality and philosophy align with your birth and postpartum goals.

  • What types of payment plans or financial support are available?

At The Collaborative Doula Collective, we understand that doula services can be an investment, and we strive to make them accessible to all families. Many of our doulas offer flexible payment plans, sliding scale options based on your financial situation, and some are open to bartering for services. Additionally, a number of our doulas do pro bono work throughout the year to support families in need. Please feel free to discuss these options with your chosen doula to find a solution that works best for you.
